Hockey Canada Names Canadian Rosters For Two Upcoming National Women's Team Events

CALGARY, AB – Hockey Canada announced on Friday the respective rosters for the next two National Women’s Team events of the 2008-09 season.

From October 9-13, 23 players will take to the ice at the Kay Arena in Moncton, NB for the National Women’s Team October camp. The roster includes 15 members of Canada’s team that won a silver medal at the 2008 IIHF World Women’s Championship in Harbin, China in April 2008.

Also on Friday, Hockey Canada announced a roster of 21 players who will compete at the 2008 4 Nations Cup, which will run November 4-9, 2008 in Lake Placid, NY. Twelve players from Canada’s silver medal-winning entry at the 2008 IIHF World Women’s Championship are on the 4 Nations Cup roster. Canada will attempt to win the 4 Nations Cup for the fifth-straight year.

“The players who were named to these two rosters should be proud of their accomplishments,” says Melody Davidson, head coach of Canada’s National Women’s Team. “Both of these events are important for the players as they work towards future camps in the 2008-09 season, culminating with the 2009 IIHF World Women’s Championship in April in Hameenlinna, Finland.”

National Women’s Team October camp details

The National Women’s Team camp will include several on-ice sessions, along with four games against local Midget AAA boys’ teams. Canada’s National Women’s Team will face off against the Saint John Vitos (October 10), Fredericton Canadiens (October 11) and Moncton Flyers (October 12 and 13). During the first intermissions of each of the games, some of Canada’s players will sign autographs for fans.

The National Women’s Team October camp will be held in conjunction with the Atlantic Challenge Cup. The 13th edition of the Atlantic Challenge Cup will bring together top players in the male under-14, U15 and U16 categories, along with the female U15 and U18 categories. The event is held to prepare players from the Atlantic provinces for competition in international play.

The Atlantic Challenge Cup will be held in Moncton from October 10-13. For more information, go to www.atlanticchallengecup.com.

2008 4 Nations Cup details

Canada’s National Women’s Team will hold a short camp prior to the 4 Nations Cup from October 30-November 1. Final details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Canada, which won its fourth-consecutive gold medal at the 4 Nations Cup in 2007 in Leksand, Sweden, will open the 2008 event on November 4th against Finland (1 p.m. EST). Canada will face the United States on November 6 and will wrap up the round-robin on November 7 versus Sweden.

The bronze and gold medal games will be played on November 9. All games will be played at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, NY. Go to www.orda.org for complete ticket information.

In addition to these events, National Women’s Team camps will be held in December and January and the season will conclude with the 2009 IIHF World Women’s Championship.
