The Atom A1 team has been enjoying some on-ice success after bumping a three-game losing streak earlier in the month.
The club knocked off BWC A3 3-2 to get back over .500 in what coach George Crookshank called a “greasy win,” but dropped a 4-1 decision last weekend to BWC’s A2 team. The loss spoiled a chance for Hollyburn to gain some ground on BWC in the standings, as the Bruins held a one-point advantage in the standings.
However, the boys refused to roll over the following night and defeated Seafair A2, 8-4. The Seafair win was huge as it allowed the boys to hold on to fourth spot in Tier 1. Through Tuesday night, Hollyburn was tied with Vancouver Thunderbirds with 25 points and set-up a tight race to the finish as the season winds to a close. The A1 team elected to not take part in any tournaments over the holidays, choosing instead to focus on extra practice time and skill development. There’s also Hollyburn’s annual 3-on-3 tournament, which a handful of the players will likely take part in.
ATOM A2 UPDATE The A2 team, meanwhile, finds itself in fifth place in Tier 3 heading into the Christmas break. The club had also been on a slide in November when it dropped four games in a row, but has rebounded strongly and gone 3-2-1 since then. Last weekend, the boys faced-off against first-place Squamish A1, which is far and away the highest scoring team in the tier and was in the midst of a seven-game winning streak. Squamish took the game 7-3, but the three goals are a sign that the team is finally starting to see some bounces go its way and hopes to build off its 3-1 win against Burnaby A2 the week before heading into the last leg of the season. |
