Female The doom and gloom appears to be going away for the Langley Midget Girls team as they have made an impressive small comeback from what looked like a dismal season. The C1 team has moved up a spot to seventh in Tier 2 and holds a rough 1-8-1 record but December results tell a much different story from the early-season ugliness. They team won their first game of the year in impressive fashion earlier this month 5-0 over Tri-Cities. They have just ten goals in ten games with five of them coming in that game. They then hit the ice against the first place and undefeated Richmond team and battled to the bitter end in a close 2-1 loss. They came back to tie Semiahmoo 1-1 for their third point of the season and third in three games. Their two goals against in those three games is the biggest sign of improvement compared to the double digit tallies given up in some games at the start of the year.
Atom The Atom division continues it’s torrid pace now into mid-December led by the AAA Atom Eagles and their 12-1-1 record in the league’s top tier. The team has fired in 62 goals this year in 14 games while only allowing 23 against. South Delta is close behind in second with 31 points. The Eagles are coming off wins on back-to-back nights – 5-2 to Coquitlam A1 and 7-5 to Chilliwack A1. The A2 team is also faring well at 9-4-1 this season – just two points off of North Delta A1 for second place. They are coming off two straight wins – 4-2 against Abbotsford A2 and 5-3 versus Semiahmoo A3. The Langley A3 team is enjoying a strong 11-3-1 record in Tier 3 – they sit in second place just two points away from the perfect 14-0 Cloverdale A2s. Cloverdale’s only downfall has been collecting just eight of a possible 14 sportsmanship points.
Peewee The Peewee Rep program continues to struggle this year and December has been especially painful as the three Eagles teams are a combined 1-10-2 this month. The AAA Peewee Eagles have not yet won this year at 0-12-2. They are second worst in goal-scoring and last in goals against. They are coming off a rough 11-0 loss to powerhouse Burnaby Winter Club who is a perfect 13-0 and has scored an incredible 100 goals to just six against. The A2s were staying competitive last month but four straight losses have dropped them to seventh place at 6-7-0. They dropped recent decisions to Seafair A2, 8-3 and North Delta A1, 9-4. The A3s are only slightly better in their tier at 6-6-1 for sixth place. They too are on a losing streak – they have lost three straight; 7-2 to North Vancouver A2, 5-1 to South Delta A2 and 4-3 to Seattle Junior A1.
Bantam The Bantam rep squads are each keeping their decent seasons going into mid-month. The AAA Bantam Eagles sit in third place in the Tier 1 standings at 8-2-3. Their strong defence and goaltending has led to a team goals against average under 2.00 in 13 games. They are coming off a tough 3-1 loss to North Shore Winter Club A1 and a 2-2 tie to South Delta A1. The A2 Eagles are 9-3-1 this year and currently sit third place in Tier 2 standings. They are also showing a penchant for keeping the puck away from their net, allowing just 24 goals against in 13 games. They recently won 4-1 against the Vancouver T-Birds after taking two straight losses earlier in the month. The A3 Eagles sit at 9-5-0 and third place in Tier 3 – just four points behind Chilliwack A2. They beat Surrey A3 2-0 but cancelled that win out the next night, losing 2-0 to North Delta A2 who are just two points back from them in the standings.
Midget The Midget rep teams have seen plenty of ups and downs this year with two of the teams hurting and one still going strong. The AAA Midget Eagles are in last place but in one of the toughest tiers in area hockey. At 6-8-0 they are surprisingly dead last in the Tier 1 group. They are coming off two straight losses, 6-2 to Semiahmoo A1 and 3-2 to North Shore Winter Club, after three straight wins. Their defence has been the struggle allowing 72 goals in 14 games. The A2s are the good news story for the Langley Midget Division – they have bowled through their last three opponents: 7-5 over Richmond, 3-2 over Semiahmoo and 4-1 over Burnaby Winter Club en route to a respectable 9-5-2 record and fourth place – just two points behind Richmond for third. They have scored 80 goals this year to lead all Tier 3 teams. The A3s are in eighth place at 4-9-1. They have taken three straight defeats and maintain the worst goals against in Tier 4 with 58 let in. Their league-high in penalty minutes has not helped them.
Juvenile The AAA Juvenile Eagles continue to shine this year at 7-3-1 and are in fourth place. They are four points back of Richmond A1 for third with three games in hand. The team is coming off a 5-3 win over Coquitlam A1 – avenging a 6-3 loss to them the week prior. |
