The Ridge Meadows Midget A1s kicked off league play in style with a seven-game winning streak but have seen their play drop off lately as they suffered through a three game losing streak in mid-December.
“We kind of tailed off here in the last couple of weeks; we’ve hit a midseason slump as was expected so we’re just working our way through that right now,” said Coach Spence Levan.
The A1s have been spectacular offensively this season collecting 81 goals through 14 games, 56 of those goals coming on their season opening win streak. Through the first 13 games, forward Paul Piluso led the team with 29 points.
Through 14 games, the team is 9-4-1.
“We’ve got a good core group and we’ve been pretty successful in a lot of our game plans so far. The boys listen well and things are progressing at the speed we thought they would,” says Levan.
The A1s will be competing in the Richmond International Midget Tournament over the Christmas break and Levan’s expectations are high.
“In the last five years, we’ve won it once, we’ve been to the final once and I don’t think we’ve finished any worse than the semifinals so we set our sites pretty high for this tournament.” |
