On January 13, BC Hockey launched the British Columbia High School Hockey League (BCHSHL) in conjunction with Scholastic Hockey Opportunities West (SHOW). The vision of this Province wide High School league is to grow the game of ice hockey separate from the existing Minor Hockey season while complimenting the Minor Hockey system and High School in British Columbia.
The inaugural BCHSHL will begin in early March 2010 and consist of 16 high schools in four (4) zones (Langley, Abbotsford, Tri Cities, and Ridge Meadows). Each school / team will first compete against three other high schools from their area in a round robin format. Teams will then be ranked 1-4 based on points, and all 16 teams will move to the Tournament of Champions taking place April 1-4, 2010. Here, the teams will play in a single game knock out system until a champion is declared and crowned the best high school hockey team in the BC High School Hockey League.
High Schools have until February 7, 2010 to register. Registration is on a first come first serve basis and spots are filling quickly. All registration information can be found on the High School Hockey section on the BC Hockey website.
This fun but highly competitive league is open to hockey players in grades 10-12 (midget-aged hockey players) who are registered BC Hockey players (junior hockey players are excluded) and are enrolled full time in the schools that they play for.
