Hockey Canada announced today the 22 player roster for Canada’s National Women Under 18 Team. Kaleigh Fratkin was the sole player selected to the team from BC. The team will compete in a three (3) game series against the United States in Calgary from August 24-27.
Kaleigh Fratkin from Burnaby, BC was a stand out on defence last season for the Female Midget AAA Champions, Vancouver Fusion. Fratkin was also a member of the National Women’s Under 18 team that captured a silver medal at the 2009 IIHF World Women’s Championship in Germany. Kaleigh will also compete for Team BC at the 2009 Women’s National Under 18 Championship in Surrey, BC from November 4-8, 2009. The roster announced Monday will not be Canada’s team for the world championship. Player evaluations will continue during the 2009-10 season, including the 2009 National Women’s Under-18 Championship, and a final roster will be named for the world championship in March. The 2010 IIHF World Women’s Under 18 Championship will be held in the United States from March 27 to April 3, 2010. Team Canada’s goal is to select the team following the three (3) game series with the United States in August.
