The 2009 High Performance 1 Seminar held in Penticton, BC concluded on Sunday, July 5. The seminar was combined with the theory of coaching with the on-ice application of coaching by integrating the seminar with the Male Under 16 Summer Development Camp.
Some of Canada’s leaders in Coaching were invited to speak to the delegates in attendance. In total ten (10) speakers were on hand to present to the 24 delegates attending the bi-annual seminar. The presenters were as follows:
Corey McNabb – Individual Tactics Jamie Fiset – Managing Your Goaltending Coach Jeff Compton – Physical Preparedness and Nutrition George Kingston – Offensive Team Play Barry Smith – Practice Planning Craig Bedard – Special Teams George Cochrane – Defensive Team Play Greg Hermiston – Seasonal Planning Jeff Oldenborger – Video Analysis Greg Campeau – Coaching & Interpersonal Communication
“One of the advantages of the Coach Delegates was the utilization of the information presented to them, which then assisted in the development of the players attending the Under 16 Provincial Camp and preparing the players for the next stage of the High Performance Program,” said Jim Weicker BC Hockey Branch Coach Coordinator. “The hope from the Coaching Program was that we could utilize these elite coaches to better develop the players. In the end, both programs benefitted from the opportunities provided during this event”.
The NCCP High Performance I Seminar is held every two (2) years in BC and is open to coaches who are actively coaching Midget AAA (MML) or higher and have significant coaching experience. Previous certification at the Development level is an asset. Coach delegate applications will be reviewed and selected by BC Hockey. A maximum of 24 delegates will be selected.
