The inaugural Male Under 16 Provincial Camp concluded this past Saturday after four (4) intense days of on and off-ice activities at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton, BC. The 69 players attending the event were identified at the Male U16 BC Cup in Salmon Arm this past April.
Twenty (20) players will be selected to Team BC competing at the inaugural Western Branch Challenge in Red Deer, Alberta in November, 2009. The roster announcement will be made in the coming weeks, please continue to monitor the BC Hockey website.
The players were placed on four (4) teams: Team Red, Team Yellow, Team Blue and Team White. Each team participated in three (3) games showcasing the best talent that BC has to offer at the Male Under 16 level. In addition to the on-ice activities the players were put through rigorous off-ice testing. Each player completed a series of tests which will play a role in the selection of Team BC.
The Male Under 16 Program was designed by BC Hockey to instruct and prepare High Performance players for future opportunities in the BC Hockey High Performance Program. Open Zone Camps are held during the first weekend of January for players 15 years or younger. From each zone, 20 players are selected to compete in the jamboree style U16 BC Cup. A jamboree style tournament is when the 20 players selected from each zone are mixed together to form the eight (8) teams.
