Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League announced today the 40 players invited to attend Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under 18 Team Selection Camp at Father David Bauer Olympic Arena in Calgary from August 1-4. BC’s Brett Connolly, Ryan Harrison and Jordan Weal were selected to attend the camp.
Connolly from Prince George, BC played for the Prince George Cougars of the WHL in the 2008-2009 season. He finished the past season with 30 goals and 30 assists for 60 points and was named WHL Rookie of the Year. In the 2007-2008 season he was a member of the Major Midget League Champions, Cariboo Cougars.
Harrison a native of Kelowna, BC was a member of the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL this past season. In the 2007-2008 season he was a member of the Okanagan Rockets of the Major Midget League finishing the year with 20 goals and 28 assists.
Weal from North Vancouver, BC played for the Regina Pats of the WHL in the 2008-2009 season finishing with 16 goals and 54 assists. In the 2007-2008 season he played for the Vancouver North West Giants of the Major Midget League and is the all time point leader in a season finishing with 39 goals and 61 assists for 100 points in 40 games.
All three (3) players have progressed through the BC Hockey High Performance Program and were part of the Silver winning Team Pacific at the 2009 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.
At the conclusion of the selection camp, the coaching staff will select a roster of 22 players that will represent Canada at the 2009 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka in the Czech Republic and Slovakia from August 11-15.
